My in-laws told us about the son of a close friend who had been offered what they considered a remarkable cryptocurrency opportunity. Six months earlier, someone had helped him place $2,500 into a crypto market or app.
He was instructed to open the app a couple of times each day and enter a code. The account now supposedly showed $60,000. That growth was being treated as evidence that the opportunity worked, even though he had never attempted to withdraw the money.
My in-laws were considering putting their own money into the same system and encouraged us to participate as well. My husband was sceptical, but the endorsement from a family friend made it difficult to explain why the screen balance proved nothing.
This remained a near-miss for us. The unresolved question was simple: could the original investor withdraw the displayed $60,000 without paying another deposit, tax, verification charge or account-unlocking fee?
