A fake FCA recovery contact convinced me to send crypto through a Coinbase extension

I was contacted by someone using the identity of Andrew Michael Cork and claiming to work for the FCA. He said he had recovered investment money that had previously been stolen from me.

Instead of receiving recovered funds, I was persuaded to buy cryptocurrency through what was described as a Coinbase extension. The recovery story became another loss.

Anyone who contacts you out of the blue claiming to have recovered crypto should be treated with extreme caution. A recovery promise should never require a new crypto payment or a new wallet connection.
